Our Head Coaches for our Beach Program

HEAD COACHES

Johnny Roberts Johnny returns to our 2019 Beach season from last year and is currently our U16 Boys Head Coach. Johnny attended and graduated from the University of Guelph in 2011 and currently lives in Kitchener working as a teacher for the Waterloo Region District School Board. His coaching philosophy is very simple – your success as an athlete comes from the level of effort you’re willing to put into your training and game. However, you should always be having fun, learning and enjoying yourself in any sport you play or train for. Johnny is a very competitive coach but the most important thing to him is to see his team develop and grow together and become better athletes overall!

Zachary Ferguson Zachary is new to GYVA this year and currently coaches our U16 Girls team. He started playing volleyball at the age of 8 and played on through High School and University. After playing on the OVA beach tour in High School he attended the University of Toronto where he played for the Scarborough campus for 5 years and spent time working as an OVA official. While there he won two Tri-Campus championships, 2 MVPS and was inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame. While attending University he coached the Scarborough Shock 15U girls club volleyball team. Zach also has a certification in Fascial Mobility, Fundamental Striking and Healthy Eating and Weight Loss. When it comes to coaching, Zach believes the biggest goal is to have players improve both individually and as a team.
